A Quiet Summer
The questions in June implied, as they always do, that I should be excited about summer, or at the very least, busy. Since everyone was busy or happy in summer, I would not interrupt nor disrupt. All summer, I had stopped talking except when necessary. Or maybe I was no longer asked.
At the end of the summer, it's my allergist that asked, "How much further do you want to go? What are you willing to do to get there?"
Why didn't you tell them the truth?**
Because my coworkers deserve. . .
Because my friends deserve. . .
Because joining is a choice
And so is staying separate.
The truth is everything.
What if the truth you're (not) telling,
What if the choice you're (not) making
Is to yourself?
The possibility of the allergen taking control presses against me. The solution appeared to be staying as still, quiet as possible.
But before you give it to another, ask yourself:
Are you giving clarity, light and purpose?
Or, are you shifting a burden to someone who needs all their strength?
At the end of the summer, it's my allergist that provided options, "The allergy is significant, but limited. Immunotherapy next spring is a good option. Let us know what actions you want to take."
The truth is everything.
Because I am the one who deserves. . . better.
