Power Restored
It cuts.
Wind.
To the vein.
Wire.
Blood pressure
Pumps.
Water.
Spurts.
A shot
Pops.
In the darkness.
Air in
Thumps into my stomach.
Air out
Presses behind my skull
Oxygen
Openings. Hollowness.
Carbon Dioxide
Grinding. Trimming.
Wrong spaces occupied
Conforming. Confirmation.
A broken promise
Of life alongside.
Bent.
On another side.
Twisted.
The other side.
Broken.
A fever.
It’s heat that fuels the storm
Only to run away.
Ire returns.
But only to my veins.
And the wires to tick the clock
Blade by grinding blade
Limbs run cold.
Cleansing cuts
“Too big.”
Repair the lines
“Shouldn’t have planted them there.”
Angled, interesting fingers
Clipped
Dirt stained nails. Rough bark.
Chunked
Imagining diverse futures
Flat stumps.
Over long horizons
Flat fields.
"Do we owe them?"
No
"For the corn?"
No
Some plants matter more
Than others.
Sameness today.
Restores power.
Won’t heal
Electricity revives function
Our chronic ailment.
“Take it all.”
Tomorrow.
